The First Annual Brockweir Soapbox Derby
On the 17th of September 2016 Brockweir witnessed the beginning of a new tradition. What could be more exhilarating than flinging yourself at breakneck speeds towards the English Welsh border in an vehicle powered by gravity? It’s an event they are cleverly calling ‘Brake for the Border’. The first annual Brockweir soapbox derby was an enormous success. Eighteen carts took part, and a healthy sized crowd came to witness the mayhem that is soapbox racing. There’s a great atmosphere and the whole village turned out to experience the fun.
The course runs for just shy of half a mile down quite a steep hill and ends in the centre of the village.
If you fancy having a go yourself the contest is open to all. All you need to do is build yourself a soapbox racer and apply.
You can find out all about this years event at www.brockweirsoapboxderby.co.uk. It’s definitely an event worth witnessing.
We would like to thank the organisers of the Brockweir Soapbox Derby and Wye Valley UAV www.wyevalleyuav.co.uk for the use of their drone footage.
